Editor’s Note
We hope your new year is off to a great start! Currents looks forward to bringing you all the great news there is to report about Northeast Ohio living in 2012. If you have story ideas or topics of interest you would appreciate reading and learning more about this year, please feel free to e-mail me at editor@currentsnews.com. It takes a village, and we’re always open to fresh ideas, insights and perspectives about the unique lifestyle we enjoy in this region.
This month, our focus is on bridal inspirations, for all of you brides-to-be and for those who will be helping you as you plan for your special day. This year, we’re launching a series entitled “The Journey Begins” in which we will devote a couple of pages per month from now through August, specifically designed to guide you through the important steps and stages involved in planning a memorable wedding event. We’ll include advice and suggestions from area brides- and bridegrooms-to-be and their mothers, relatives and friends who are in the midst of planning, as well as from couples who recently married and have words of wisdom to share. This monthly “Wedding Chronicles” column will be driven by Currents’ bridal editor, Kathryn Riddle. (See page B9.)
The Journey Begins in Section B this month, with feature stories about trends in bridal gown designs, rings, venues, honeymoon travel destinations and more. Next month, we’ll focus on bridal beauty, featuring the latest in skin care, makeup, hair, etc.
For you snowbirds who enjoy escaping our winter weather and are planning some time away in warmer places, Donna Morrow-Alusheff spotlights the season’s colorful, relaxed resort-wear fashions on page B11. If you haven’t yet planned your getaway, Cynthia Schuster Eakin has consulted with area travel agents about the best values for travel in 2012 on page B10.
Our January issue also features the many beautiful balls held this past holiday season, including The Recreation League’s Assembly Ball (B2/3), Akron Children’s Hospital’s Charity Ball (B1), Christ Child Society’s Starlight Ball (B1), Western Reserve Junior Service League’s Candlelight Charity Ball (B4) and the English-Speaking Union’s Beefeater’s Ball (B4).
Finally, on pages A6 and A7, Currents proudly presents its annual Black-Tie Awards, featuring the best charity and arts events of 2011. With Currents Benefit Beat reporters able to provide figures for “dollars raised” for 189 of the 300 events they covered in 2011, note that more than $66 million was raised. I think that speaks volumes about the generosity of Northeast Ohioans, who are willing to share their time, talent and treasure to improve and enhance the quality of life in this region. Bravo! Good work, and let’s keep the momentum going in 2012. We’ll be there to report about it.
