“Red & White on Thursday Night”
The Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation held its 13th annual Red & White on Thursday Night benefit at the John S. Knight Center in Akron.
Party co-chairmen were Debra Sherman and Megan Faust. Megan’s daughter Anna, now six, was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when she was 18 months old. Honorary chairman was Dr. Greg Vrabec, orthopaedic surgeon at Akron General Hospital, the evening’s presenting sponsor.
The Peter Manheim Quartet of students at Oberlin played at the VIP reception featuring wines from Gregory Graham Wineries and hors d’oeuvres from Great Lakes Cheese. Stunning arrangements of red anthuriums and white orchids were created and donated by Gregg Lauck of The Greenhouse. Eventually there were more than 700 people warming up with wine tastings and fabulous food provided by about 30 wine distributors and area restaurants.
In addition to a silent auction, TK O’Grady of WONE emceed and auctioneer Mike Berland conducted a live auction that included pledges to Key to a Cure.
The popular wine bottle raffle prize of the Napa Valley trip was won by Kendra Mellar. Katie Paschke and Keith Busch won the dice roll-off for the trip to Las Vegas. The party raised a record-breaking $95,000 that will help the Arthritis Foundation serve the 1.5 million people of all ages in NE Ohio who are affected by this disease.
