“Gartner Opening”

They wined and dined upstairs and downstairs at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s party to celebrate the long-awaited reopening of Gartner Auditorium which looks like a gorgeous box made of chocolate and sounds like a dream, if the performance by Max Raabe and Palast Orchester is any indication. The famed group from Berlin charmed a full house with their wonderful retro music.
Before the show there were cocktails in the hallway of the new East Wing and then dinner on two levels below for the 220 people who came for the patron dinner catered by Elan. Meanwhile, in the upper lobby, some 400 guests were enjoying a reception with food from Cleveland chefs Sergio Abramof, Jonathan Bennett, Zachary Bruell, Marlin Kaplan, Douglas Katz, John Pistone, Jonathon Sawyer and Karen Small.
Members of the museum’s Womens Council who planned the evening were: Marianne Bernadotte, Joanne Cowam, Nancy Goldberg, Cathy Miller, Caroline Selman, Annie Wainwright and Suzanne Westlake. Josie and Chace Anderson were the honorary co-chairmen.
The opening marks the return of the return home of the VIVA! and Gala performing arts series which has been “around town” for four years. STORY BY MARTHA TOWNS/PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROBERT MULLER
