Tiara

Tiara, the black-tie dinner dance benefit for Southwest General Hospital took on a Roaring 20s theme this year which was carried out at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.
Chairman Diane Goodwin and a team of seven created an environment that started in the hotel’s exhibition hall with dynamic theatrical lighting, fabric on the walls, and projections. Centerpieces included oversized martini glasses and Chanel perfume bottles while candy cigarettes were spread on table tops. Guests bid on silent auction items during the social hour.
A few guests came in 1920s attire, but most took full advantage of the black-tie range of dress.
At dinner, Grand Honorary Chair Bruce Daskal spoke about the significance of Southwest General’s Emergency Room. This year’s Tiara benefited Emergency Department services. Dancing demonstrations continued through and after dinner, which got the 600-plus attendees ready to dance themselves. Music was by the Art Company Orchestra.
Thomas Perciak, Chairman of the Foundation Board of Trustees, explained that a group of dedicated employees sponsored a “mini” Tiara this year, which raised $10,000. That was doubled through a matching gift. Combined with “big” Tiara, the fundraiser was a huge success. The presence of dozens of corporate tables is a tribute to the generosity of the community and the hard work of the Tiara committee. STORY BY ART THOMAS/PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROB WETZLER
