Philanthropia

Philanthropia, Harlan Diamond’s innovative benefit to raise money for local charities following 9/11, reached a milestone this year, having raised more than $1.6 million since its inception.
More than 970 people attended the 11th annual event at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven, designating their ticket purchases for donations to 123 nonprofit organizations. Guests also bought raffles for chances to win three separate prizes, with the big one being this year’s cash amount of $3,155 that was won by Tom Peate whose charity of choice was the West Side Ecumenical Ministry Food Center.
Father Bob Stec offered an invocation prior to the luncheon and program whose master of ceremonies was WEWS-TV News Anchor Leon Bibb. Landerhaven Executive Vice president, Charles Klass, acknowledged the sponsorship tables and made the announcement about the money raised over the years, as well as this year’s revenue of nearly $142,000.
Under the direction of Charles Eversole, The Singing Angels performed a wonderful musical program that included the audience joining in to sing popular Christmas songs. Founded in 1964, The Singing Angels were invited to be part of the National Christmas Tree Music Program in Washington, D.C., a coup for them as they represent the City of Cleveland.
