“Shipwrecked…
Down by the Shore-by”
From the skull-and-swords flags leading up to the Shoreby Club in Bratenahl to the double take of the man in my rearview mirror who was dressed in full pirate garb, Shipwrecked… Down by the Shore-by wasn’t attended by just a bunch of swashbuckling pirates — their non-pirate friends were there too. And, no one was asked to walk the plank.
About 150 guests attended the benefit for the Kidney Foundation of Ohio, which raised approximately $10,000.
Overlooking Lake Erie and a robust orange and pink sunset, guests strolled the grounds of the 23-room, circa 1890 stone mansion drinking rum punch served in dainty Champagne glasses. They dined on Brie in puff pastry, roasted pork tenderloin, exotic greens salad and made-to-order risotto with wild mushrooms and chevre, among other delectable items.
Someone very lucky had the winning bid on tickets to the 2009 Country Music Awards with passes to the VIP reception and All-Star Jam. Other auction items included a week’s stay in Sebastian, Fla., tickets to the Cleveland Orchestra and a weekend at the Shoreby Club, among many other winners. The Chinese auction featured more than 30 imaginative gift baskets.
Money raised will help the Kidney Foundation provide a broad program of assistance to people with kidney disease and their families, including the promotion and funding of research for the prevention and treatment of kidney disease, as well as providing educational programming.
