“Speakeasy”

It’s always fun when party guests get in the spirit of the theme, and so it was when 130 fans of the Cleveland POPS Orchestra decked themselves out in hats, spats, feathers and flapper dresses for Speakeasy which took place at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven.

Chairman Sondra Boyle set the tone in her elegant black ensemble with her husband Marvin the very picture of a speakeasy habitué. The music never stopped for this party (well, maybe for a few minutes), and it was toe-tapping indeed as POPS conductor Carl Topilow led his Charismatic Combo in one danceable number after another.

Adding to the fun were the ubiquitous silent auction as well as a Chinese Raffle and treasure bags for $100 which were guaranteed to have $200 worth of merchandise inside.

Sondra noted proudly that the POPS is in the black. “People who love the POPS really love the POPS,” she added.

Food at the stations was on the comfort side with meat loaf, fried chicken and assorted sides. Everyone eagerly lined up for ice cream topped with a choice of hot cobblers. A perfect ending. STORY BY MARTHA TOWNS/ PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROBERT MULLER
