Add a touch of modern style to your fashion wardrobe

Another season, another round of shows, editorial comments, tweets, social posts and predictions on spring’s top trends. At first glance, spring 2013 appears to be all too familiar. We see black and white combinations, hints of metallic, loads of color, prints and ladylike lace and leather played out in wonderful concoctions. This time around though, designers give us brilliant new options that reflect a mod sense of style. This is the season to reinvent in unexpected ways stayed trends and pieces.
Let’s start with black and white. Designers get graphic with this color combination and big, bold stripes are the way to go for spring. Black and white two-toned looks are strong as well. Freshen up last spring’s black or white pant with spring’s new oversized jacket or denim-inspired jacket or vest. Designers also showcased black and white with a pop of color. A single, bright color with black and white is modern and clean. For the office, mix black and white with tan, another of this spring’s popular color combinations.
Color has been an important trend the last few seasons and remains so for spring 2013. Primary colors such as red, yellow, blue, orange and green are especially strong this season. Although color blocking continues to be an important trend for spring, brightly hued monochromatic dressing is the look of the moment. This spring, head-to-toe single color caftans, suits and dresses are accented with ruffle details, embroidery and cut-outs, leather details, lace inserts and overlays. Prints are equally as colorful this season. Geometric and kaleidoscope-like prints, polka dots, colorful florals and odd, quirky prints with a ’60s reference are enough to make your head spin. Pastels in ice blue and baby pink have their moment this spring as does white-on-white dressing.
Lace and leather are colorful and feature sheer inserts, cut-out and cage-like details. Dresses, shirts and blouses with Peter Pan collars are worn buttoned up and favorites such as the stacked heel, skinny belts and Lucite accessories round out the season.
