“Dedication Gala”

If ever a party were perfect, the Ahuja Medical Center Dedication Gala was in every way.
One thousand invited guests were awed by the elegance of the new medical center, a key component of University Hospital’s Vision 2010 and the first new hospital to be built in Cuyahoga County in 30 years. The $30 million lead gift toward the $298 million project was given by Monte and Usha Ahuja, whose daughter Manisha Ahuja Sethi was a member of the gala advisory committee that included Mrs. Ahuja, chairman Margaret Singerman, Terry Adelman and Enid Rosenberg.
Light streamed through the glass walls of the soaring lobby, enhanced with stunning art work including the specially-commissioned “Ahuja Azure, Citron and Amber Persian Wall” created by internationally renowned artist Dale Chihuly. The extraordinary piece is the singular largest public display of the artist’s work in the region as well as in any health care facility in the country.
Tours were available of the seven floors of the hospital scheduled to open in January. In addition to state-of-the-art medical technologies for comprehensive care, amenities for patients maximize privacy in an environment promoting nurturing and healing. Every aspect of green building standards and sustainability practices were incorporated in the construction of the hospital. Its 53-acre Beachwood campus can accommodate future expansion.
Executive Caterers exceeded its own gold standard of service starting with the lavish cocktail buffet featuring raw bars and a sumptuous array of appetizers at stations designed by Joe Mineo of Youngstown. The dinner buffet was dazzling with a selection of entrees including lobster tails, tenderloin, salmon and accompaniments inspired by Indian cuisine. After dinner, the cocktail tent was transformed for dessert. Park Place provided musical entertainment after dinner.
Prior to a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, the program, introduced by UH Senior Public Media Director Loree Vick, included a welcome by UH CEO Tom Zenty, Dan Welsh, president of presenting sponsor Huntington Bank Greater Cleveland Region,  Beachwood Mayor Merle Gorden, and Jim Benedict, president of UH Ahuja Medical Center.
Senator George Voinovich said, “This is an extraordinary event for Northeast Ohio and for America. Monte Ahuja and his family are esteemed by this community.” On behalf of his family, Mr. Ahuja expressed special thanks to his friend Shelly Adelman and to Mr. Zenty and said of the Medical Center, the legacy of his family, will be for future generations a place of “hope and healing in a way never experienced before.” STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY KATHRYN RIDDLE
