More than 100 ladies, dressed to the nines, enjoyed a festive luncheon and fashion show, “Crescendo,” to benefit the Akron Symphony at Silver Lake Country Club.
The dining room, with expansive windows overlooking woods and the golf course, was beautifully arranged, with silent auction items and a raffle that featured a vintage ring once owned by the late Mabel Lamborn Graham. The prominent Akron woman will be remembered for marching up to “Akron Beacon Journal” publisher John S. Knight in 1948 and declaring that Akron needed a professional symphony orchestra. Turns out that the publisher gave her $500 for seed money to launch a drive to raise funds for the symphony that had its inaugural season in 1953.
A real hit was Chico of Hudson’s sparkling “Slim Secrets” line, which was featured on the runway and emceed by manager Staci Moran.
Paula Singleton, whose whimsical hats have a following of their own, was there with a variety of specialty hats, ready to wear for the Derby or a chilly winter day.
Hats off to Roseanne Henderson who chaired the event and to “Vogue” sponsors Drs. Sandy and Mark Auburn.
The event raises money for the Akron Symphony Orchestra, Youth Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic and Symphony Chorus.
