Strike Out ALS

The pitcher’s mound at Progressive Field beckoned to guests at Strike Out ALS. Who wouldn’t want to pretend to be the Indians’ most valuable player?!
Most guests were happy enough to be standing on the field, discovering the dugout and dining under the stars at tables dotting the periphery of the field.
A glorious evening, chairwoman Jenny Zinkan and her committee hit a home run planning the festivities which attracted more than 400 guests.
Dan Fike Jr., former offensive lineman for the Cleveland Browns, was honored with the Iron Horse Award for his strong support of the organization. The Sherwin-Williams Co. received the Bob Feller Legacy Award.
Sports radio commentator Adam “the Bull” Gerstenhaber served as master of ceremonies while Shaker Heights Dance Studio performed for guests on the field.
The ALS Association provides services to patients and families including: home visits by a licensed speech therapist and social worker; its Medical Equipment Loan Closet; support for the ALS certified clinic at the Cleveland Clinic; support groups; respite care; education; awareness; and advocacy and research, according to board chairman Paul Deutsch and Executive Director Mary Wilson Wheelock.
