“An Evening With Scott Hamilton and Friends”

An Evening With Scott Hamilton and Friends was held to benefit The Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative at Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. Mr. Hamilton founded CARES (Cancer Alliance for Research, Education and Survivorship) with the goal of eradicating cancer, following his own successful treatment for the disease at the Cleveland Clinic.
First, there was a fantastic ice skating show at Quicken Loans Arena attended by 7,200 people. Scott Hamilton was introduced to the crowd by his son Aidan. Mr. Hamilton co-hosted the show with his friend and fellow Olympian Kristi Yamaguchi. The ice skating extravaganza featured 14 more of Mr. Hamilton’s world-class, champion skater friends.
The skaters performed to live music by this year’s musical guest, Grammy award-winner Kenny Loggins. He was accompanied by the Cleveland Pops Orchestra under the direction of its founder, Carl Topilow. The ice skating production was created especially for this one-show-only. “I am working on getting it televised for next year,” said Maria Miller, who chairs the event each year. As if that were not enough, she and her husband Sam also host a party on the preceding evening, and the skaters fly in early so as not to miss the fun!
Following the show there was a “Gala Dinner With The Stars.” The black-tie affair at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel sold out with 700 guests. The illustrious crowd that Maria Miller annually brings together includes business leaders, notable members of the medical community, Cleveland philanthropists. It is always a memorable and spectacular event. Arne Klein designed the stunning centerpieces that sparkled with tiny LEDs set within a mass of roses in three shades of pink.
An Evening With Scott Hamilton and Friends raised nearly $1,000,000. To learn more about CARES, call 216.444.0611. STORY BY CAROLINE R. MERK. PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROB WETZLER
