Angie Fowler Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Institute “American Girl Fashion Show”

American Girl Programs, Inc. partners with nonprofit organizations throughout the country to present fashion shows to raise funds for children’s charities. Judith Matsko brought the American Girl Fashion Show to Cleveland 18 years ago, and has chaired it every year. It was her way of giving back after being successfully treated for cancer at University Hospitals. The local event is a fundraiser for the Angie Fowler Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Institute at UH.

The luncheon and fashion show took place at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven. There were two seatings, at 11 a.m. and at 2:30 p.m., with a combined attendance of 700 guests. Well over half of them were excited young girls, accompanied by friends, mothers and grandmothers. Most of the girls brought along their own favorite American Girl dolls, and some were even dressed in matching outfits.

This year’s fashion show featured 19 young models wearing historical and contemporary clothing. The historical fashions are based upon the series of books about the dolls that represent different cultures and periods in time. Teenage volunteers served as the show announcers.

The 2015 American Girl Fashion Show was expected to raise around $20,000.
