If it’s almost Valentine’s Day, you can bet things are getting hot and steamy at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, where “Animal Attractions,” presented by CHASE, turned The RainForest into party central for the seventh straight year. A little bit of science — mini-talks by curators on animal mating habits — may have been the reason this was a 21-and-older-only crowd. Or it could have been the libations being poured at various spots throughout the exhibit. No matter…nearly 300 winter-weary folks soaked in the warmth of The RainForest exhibit with its lush greenery and animals.
Brancott Wines offered wine education and tasting sessions during the evening, and Zoo personnel provided behind-the-scenes tours. Several zoo residents made appearances, too, to entertain the crowd.
Several area restaurants provided good things for grazing. Top among them: Blue Canyon’s Lobster Mac and Cheese, Sans Souci’s braised lamb shank and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse’s brie-and-onion flatbread (their bacon-wrapped chorizo-stuffed dates must have been delicious…they were gone in a flash!). Best treat: Cleveland Cupcake Company’s delectable and unique delights, like Bacon Chocolate Chip, Red Wine and Red Roses and Mexican Hot Chocolate cupcakes.
An extensive Chinese raffle helped the Cleveland Zoological Society meet its $25,000 goal for the evening. No doubt about it…whether it’s Valentine’s Day or any day, we love our Zoo! STORY BY LINDA McMULLEN/ PHOTOGRAPHS BY JOHN BASHIAN
