Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue sums up spring 2009 bridal trends. From heavy lace and modern vintage looks to sultry, figure-hugging gowns there is a definite return to retro chic elegance and old Hollywood glamour from the ’20s through the ’60s.
Key silhouettes are the Mermaid, Greek Goddess, asymmetrical and ball gown style. Brides are choosing gowns with lace and floral detailing as well as dresses in soft, flowing fabrics featuring pleats and tiered skirts. Equally important is the use of embroidery, feathers, beads, crystals, lace and silk flowers and petals. Most surprising is the use of color. Though white is still a bride’s favorite choice of color, soft pastels are the next big trend. Not ready for color? Opt for a softly colored sash.
Necklines include the sweetheart,
v-neck, bateau and off-the-shoulder styles. The one-shoulder style is strong as well and seems to be replacing the popular strapless style of seasons past. Head pieces continue to be a strong part of the overall ensemble. This spring expect to see veils and hair accessories accented with silk details of flowers, petals and feathers. Feathers seem to be one of the hottest trends in bridal wear.

Rounding out the trends for 2009 are options such as beaded and floral waistlines, shoulder bows, colorful sashes, all over lace and layers of fabric. When it comes to bridal, romance is always in style whether it be modern romance or romance inspired from the past. — By DONNA MORROW-ALUSHEFF (compiled from BellaB of Completely Weddings and Wedding Trends 2009: Brides Gown)
