Centers for Families and Children “Luncheon with Marcus Luttrell”

More than 300 guests attended a benefit luncheon for the Centers for Families and Children featuring decorated Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell.

Guests enjoyed lunch at the Cleveland Convention Center while hearing Mr. Luttrell’s captivating story of courage, survival, patriotism and the power of family and community support. His message aligned with the mission of the Center, which works to connect as many people as possible to effective health care, education and essential human services.

Mr. Luttrell, author of the “New York Times” bestselling book “Lone Survivor” and subject of the Oscar-nominated film by the same name shared the harrowing story of his journey into the mountainous border of Afghanistan and Pakistan in Operation Redwing.

His presentation paid tribute to the friends and teammates who did not make it off the mountain. He spoke of the horrors of modern warfare, but also of the bonds of friendship and the power of teamwork. His experiences have captivated millions around the country, and in the vast Convention Center, one could hear a pin drop.

He ended his talk by encouraging those in attendance to live life to the fullest, and telling family and friends how much you love them while they are alive.

One of the oldest and largest nonprofit organizations in Northeast Ohio, the Centers for Family and Children assists more than 20,000 people annually in our community. The Centers’ belief is that, by bolstering the least fortunate, we bolster the community itself. It provides such services as workforce development, food centers, early learning, health and wellness and youth and family services.
