The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hosted its 12th annual Chefs Fantasy benefit at which Don Misheff, managing partner of Ernst & Young, was honored.
Joe Heider, principal of event title sponsor Rehmann Comprehensive Financial Services, and Tim Clepper served as chairman and vice-chairman of the party attended by 300 people at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Chefs Roger Thomas of Piatto Novo, Lanny Chin of NAYA Bistro, and Loretta Paganini of International Culinary Arts & Sciences Institute, provided sumptuous hors d’oeuvres for the VIP reception.
Andy Baskin, NewsChannel 5 sports director and a national CF board member served as Master of Ceremonies. Mr. Baskin’s brother Bruce succumbed to complications of cystic fibrosis five years ago. Mr. Heider expressed his thanks to Heidelberg Distributors for provided Cline Cellars wines for the ensuing dinner, an outstanding, six-course meal, coordinated by Chef Donna Chriszt, owner of DISH Deli & Catering. Each course was introduced by its chef, with this year’s participants including Richard Arnold of Muse at The Ritz-Carlton; Matthew Anderson of Umami; Jonathon Sawyer of The Greenhouse Tavern; Brandt Evans of Blue Canyon Kitchen & Tavern; Zach Bruell of Parallax, L’Albatros, Table 45 and Chinato; and Susan Geul of The Bertram Inn.
Mr. Misheff spoke eloquently about his company losing a young man to cystic fibrosis. Additional speakers included Richard Mattingly, executive vice president and ceo of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; Jodi Pittner and her daughter who wrote a children’s book to raise money for CF; and KC Bryan White, diagnosed with CF at age three and now married with an almost three-year-old son. The live auction, conducted by Brooks Ames, raised nearly $42,000 in pledges to Bid for a Cure. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY KATHRYN RIDDLE
