Christ Child Society of Akron “Game Day!”

It was game on at Game Day, the annual benefit hosted by the Christ Child Society of Akron.

Wearing apparel of their favorite college or professional sports team, with OSU scarlet and gray dominating the field, about 200 people had a fun-filled night at the St. George Family Center. Debbie Breyley and Anne Burris were co-chairmen of the event featuring a silent auction, reverse raffle, a craft-beer pull and chances to win a Hilton Head getaway and a diamond necklace donated by Sterling Jewelers. DJ Mario Volpe, a John Carroll University business student, kept the music going and also was emcee for the party.

Christ Child Society of Akron President Rita Rochford welcomed the guests prior to the invocation by past president Mary Yanko. Guests enjoyed hearty hors d’oeuvres and a buffet dinner.

Expected proceeds of $20,000 will support Christ Child’s primary project, its Children’s Clothing Center that provides school uniforms, outerwear and basic necessities to needy children in the Akron public schools. In addition to the signature layette program, the Akron Chapter, in collaboration with Summit County Children’s Services, provides Friendship Bags to children displaced from their homes due to abuse or neglect.
