Cleveland International Film Festival
“Opening Night Party”

What, you may well ask, could lure more than 1,000 people downtown on a Thursday night? It must be opening night of the Cleveland International Film Festival.
It was indeed, and the mass of humanity which marched peacefully from Tower City Cinemas to MK Ferguson Plaza were happy to be there — to be part of the buzz, enjoy delicious food from Ohio City’s Le Petite Triangle Café served buffet style and mingle with the stars or, in this case, the star.
Dallas Roberts, the hero of the festival opener “Light Bulb,” was besieged by fans who wanted to take his picture or have theirs taken with him. Executive producer Greg Goodell and writer-producer Mike Cram were equally happy to oblige. It wasn’t a great movie, but it had its moments and it was, he told us, “85 percent autobiographical.” He really did invent a talking bottle opener and he gave each of us one to take home.
Dollar Bank, as it has for the past 12 years, sponsored the party. CIFF board president Jules Belkin professed himself delighted with the evening. “It (the presidency) is one of the best jobs I’ve ever had.”
Opening nights are always fun, and this one was no exception with everyone full of anticipation for the 10 days ahead and many planning to be back the very next day to watch films from all over the world. STORY BY MARTHA TOWNS/ PHOTOGRAPHS BY JEFF FARR
