City Ballet of Cleveland “Sugarplum Fairy Tea”

It was fairies, princesses and ballerinas that descended on the Cleveland Skating Club for the fourth annual Sugarplum Fairy Tea benefitting the City Ballet of Cleveland.

Young children delighted in the afternoon event, along with mothers, grandmothers and even some fathers. There were delightful desserts donated by a variety of top pastry chefs, as well as tea and a hot chocolate station complete with marshmallows and whipped cream.

As the youngsters surrounded the center floor, some waving wands they crafted at the event, performers from the Uniquely Cleveland Nutcracker performed. The actual show was presented by the City Ballet of Cleveland with guest artists from Verb Ballets earlier this month at the Breen Center for the Performing Arts.

Attendees at this fun-filled afternoon that centered solely on children also enjoyed photo opportunities with the Sugarplum Fairy and other “Nutcracker” favorites.

Following the performance, the kids interacted with the dancers as well as swirled around the dance floor with their wands, mirroring the ballerinas they enjoyed. There was a raffle and face painting. Each table was adorned with a tea cup filled with beautiful flowers.

A non-profit dance company, City Ballet of Cleveland is dedicated to returning classic ballet to Northeast Ohio. In its sixth year, the company has enjoyed being the recipient of a grant from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and from the Ohio Arts Council. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY SUE REID
