“Cold Noses, Warm Hearts: Fur Ball 2009”

There was just one four-legged guest of honor, but a roomful of love at this year’s “Fur Ball 2009” for the Cleveland Animal Protective League. “Cold Noses, Warm Hearts” offered lots of wonderful auction items — including lunch with area celebrities and an array of signed sports memorabilia and entertainment packages — to help raise $170,000 for the APL’s “Second Chance” program.     The 280 guests at The InterContinental Hotel also had the chance to win a one-of-a-kind necklace by gai russo jewelry, pick out a mystery bottle of wine and take part in the APL’s annual “Fund-a-Need” pledge drive.
Dinner was a grazing event, with stations featuring pastas, salmon, salads and petite sandwiches, as well as a generous carving table.
Rebecca Wilde of Q104, serving as emcee, introduced APL Executive Director Sharon Harvey, who explained that while most animals come to the APL in a relatively healthy state, there are those who desperately need treatment from abuse and neglect. That’s where the “Second Chance” program comes in, providing the medical care necessary to make them ready for adoption. Case in point: the star of the show, Buddy, a hound mix who suffered a broken leg after being thrown from a window. Now he’s healed and happy in his new home.
