“A Decade of Dreams”

“A Decade of Dreams” was a celebration of 10 years of the All-City Musical.
For 10 years, students from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District have been singing and dancing their way through nine Broadway musicals and presenting them in performances at PlayhouseSquare.
The program was started by John Eby, beaming at the benefit pleased as punch that the show has gone on since he left to work for Tri-C. Now Tony Sias, director of arts education for the schools, heads the All-City Musical and is one terrific performer himself. The show was conceived by Tony and Bill Rudman, executive director of The Musical Theater Project. Prior to the benefit there were four school performances and two for the community.
Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served before the show at the Hanna Theater to 200 guests who were joined by another 200 people for the performance and dessert buffet following. Marigold Catering did the honors.
Receiving accolades/awards at the event were: Ruthie Brown, director of community programs for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Kathleen Cerveny, the Cleveland Foundation; Deena Epstein, the George Gund Foundation; Andrew Rayburn and Heather Guess, the Human Fund; and Thomas Schorgl, the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture.
The Cavaliers and the Indians didn’t win that night, but the Cleveland Schools did with a championship event which, it was hoped, would net some $60,000. Just wait ’til next year. The 2010 All-City Musical is scheduled for June 4, 5 and 6. STORY BY MARTHA TOWNS/PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROBERT MULLER
