Cleveland Museum of Art “Celebration”

The Cleveland Museum of Art celebrated the culmination of its monumental expansion that began 12 years ago as our world-renowned museum approaches its centennial in 2016.

Sally and Sandy Cutler and Denise and Steve Kestner were co-chairmen of the magical evening that was thematically inspired by Viktor Schreckengost’s “Jazz Bowl.” Made at Cowan Pottery Studio in Rocky River, the legendary ceramic bowl was commissioned by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1930 when her husband was governor of New York. More than 700 guests enjoyed cocktails in the exhibition spaces before remarks by Dr. William M. Griswold, museum director and by Beth Mooney, chairman and CEO of KeyCorp, the presenting sponsor. Dr. Griswold announced that the benefit had raised more than $750,000.

Spizzwinks, the Yale University a capella group of underclassmen, did a “flash mob” before guests made their way to dinner, prepared by Provenance Catering. Florist Charles Phillips designed tall centerpieces adorned with tiny lights, creating the illusion of being in an outdoor garden. A slide show of select images from the museum’s vast collection was projected on the marble façade – it was spectacular! The Dave Banks Big Band played music for dancing throughout the rest of the evening. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY KATHRYN RIDDLE
