Cleveland Zoological Society “Zippity Zoo Doo”

Some rain did little to dampen the enthusiasm this year as some 500 guests enjoyed the Cleveland Zoological Society’s annual gala ZippityZoo Doo, raising some $300,000 for a multitude of Cleveland Metroparks Zoo projects, as well as vital conservation and preservation efforts. The event was the 60th year for the gala, organized by the nonprofit partner and advocate for the Zoo. The Society raises awareness of and secures private funding for the Zoo and its programming.

A series of inter-connected white tents snaked around the back end of the zoo, leading guests to dozens of food stations by Driftwood Catering, as well as past silent auction tables, and a VIP area with plush seating and TVs for those wishing to watch game four of the NBA playoffs. Once the early evening rain stopped, attendees were able to visit “play” stations with giant party games such as “Connect Four!” that seamlessly guided guests to visit zoo sites such as the new Rosebrough Tiger Passage. The goal, according to organizers, was to lead partygoers away from the tables and out of the tents to enjoy the zoo itself.

Silent auction items included a beach home in South Carolina, one-of-a-kind sculptures by Cleveland artist David Petlowany and exclusive Zoo experiences.

“Zippity is always one of my favorite events,” said Zoo Society Executive Director Elizabeth Fowler. “It’s a chance to see the Zoo in an elegant setting and reconnect with some of our closest friends all in the name of raising money to support one of the top Zoos in the nation.”
