Community West Foundation “Straight From the Heart”

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Straight from the Heart, $1,000 was given away to a lucky guest every half hour! A popular West Side event, it drew 500 supporters to LaCentre in Westlake. The red-tie gala takes place in February, National Heart Month, and benefits the Heart Centers at Fairview, Lakewood and Lutheran Hospitals.

Straight from the Heart is known for its fantastic raffle — the best in town! Every year, people queue up to purchase the $100 tickets for a chance to win the grand prize of $100,000 in cash, or one of 39 other great prizes. They include a Harley-Davidson motorcycle; week-long vacation packages to Cancun, Hawaii and California wine country; a Mediterranean cruise, as well as other cash prizes of $10,000, $5,000, $2,000, etc.

The chairperson was Dr. Anthony Vlastaris, regional medical director of cardiovascular services. Serving as emcees were Monica Robins, senior health correspondent, WKYC-TV 3, and Allan Fee, Q104 Radio morning personality. After dinner, there was dancing to the music of The Jerry Bruno Orchestra.

This year, Straight from the Heart raised $220,000, which brings the 10-year total to $2.1 million, according to Linda Spencer, director of communications and marketing at the Community West Foundation. Dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of our community, last year alone, the Foundation gave out $3.3 million in grants to area charities.
