“A Lifetime of Change, A Day of Caring”

The success of “A Lifetime of Change, A Day of Caring,” was beyond words. Singing, inspirational words and deeds, the dazzling former Essence editor Susan L. Taylor — need we say more?
Presented by Old Stone Education Center, picture a thriving bevy of nonprofits coupled with an effusive crowd of potential volunteers, which made for an incredibly inspirational morning at a volunteer fair at the InterContinental Hotel. An impassioned talk by Ms. Taylor about the National Cares Mentoring Movement, was followed by a fabulous luncheon and the sound of angels singing — the Rev. Denise Cunningham-Doggett, of New Life Community, and her beautiful sister Michele Edwards.
Old Stone Education Center Executive Director Marc Nathanson is a man who can get just about anybody to do just about anything because he’s that kind and passionate about helping others. He was grateful to lead sponsor Key Bank and Key’s go-getter Margot James Copeland, who with her magic wand, made the introduction of Ms. Taylor to Old Stone.
A special pat on the back goes to Michelle Phillips Fay, who did a spectacular job of coordinating the priceless event that drew 80 nonprofits, 450 guests to the luncheon, and another 250 who just attended the fair.
Old Stone helps young women who have not completed their high school experience as the result of childcare needs and economic hardship and helps them reach their potential by providing academic, parenting and workforce skills. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY SALI McSHERRY
