Editor’s Note

The Editor’s Note returns, after a brief summertime hiatus, for a fabulously full September fall fashion and home design issue!

Our fall and spring fashion spreads always involve a large cast of characters working behind-the-scenes in order to coordinate what we hope will be a beautiful preview of what’s in store for these important seasons. After all, we know that our savvy, fashion-forward readers want to know what’s most stylish and available as they head out to shop as the seasons begin to change.

With veteran Currents reporter Kathryn Riddle offering to coordinate it all, and  well-known photographer, Jonathan Koslen, owner of New Image Photography agreeing to provide his expertise, we’ve worked since mid-June to produce this “Simply Fashion” issue for you!

It was Jonathan who suggested enlisting his professional contacts – David Chizek, master hair stylist and Aquage/biomega platform artist of Salon Lofts in Woodmere, and Kelly Miron, owner of the Powder Room Makeup Oasis & Boutique at Eton Chagrin Boulevard and a professional makeup artist with more than 20 years’ experience in the industry — who helped make this fashion spread extra-special this time around. Who knew that hair could be changed so quickly in so many different styles in a day? And that makeup, applied professionally and correctly, will last and remain flawless … to the point that when our models were finished after a very busy work day, they looked as if they ought to be headed out for a very special evening on the town! (David can be reached at 216.409.9216 and Kelly can be reached at 216.831.7666 or

We thank Jonathan for allowing us to invade and take over his studio and for delivering on our request to see as much detail in the clothing featured as possible! (Jonathan can be reached at 216.464.8959 or

Finally, thanks to L’Nique for loaning and delivering to us the clothing racks we needed!

In addition to fall fashion featured (B3-7), we offer in this month’s issue plenty of additional fashion-related features about children’s fashion (B12) and consignment options (B11-12), to foundation garments (B11), Pucci designs (B1) and Sketches of Fall … from talented area student designers (B2). Celebrated Chef Michael Symon has released a new cookbook to help today’s busy professionals and families create healthy meals in a fraction of the time one might expect (C4).

“Fall into Home Design” features can be found throughout this issue, too, including stories about creating a fabulous kitchen island (C3) and a comfortable family room (C5) for entertaining your friends and family this season. Paysage has launched a new Paysage Home Brand in its Cleveland Heights location (A4), Decorating Den’s Kathleen Bliss Goldfarb recently was recognized for her design creations and innovations in an annual Dream Rooms contest (C6), and don’t miss a beautiful new book by Gil Schafer III for inspiration in the merging of architecture and home design (D5).

Finally, for those of you who visit our website, especially for Benefit Beat updates, we’ve launched a new look, but at the same address at which you’ve always found us online … Enjoy!
