Editor’s Note

It’s our Fall’s Finest issue of Currents, spotlighting the season’s best in jewelry, home design, fashion, food, special events and more!

Fall is my absolute favorite of the four very distinct seasons we are blessed to experience in Northeast Ohio. When the sun shines, there is nothing like it! A canopy of colorful trees lines every road, sidewalk and pathway against a softened autumn sapphire sky. And one can’t help but carve out some time for walking, biking, driving, sitting in a park or whatever — on these beautiful days in order to take in the splendor of the season.

We’re so fortunate to have our fabulous Emerald Necklace surrounding us with parks and recreational opportunities galore to explore and enjoy the season (A6).

Our cherished Cleveland Browns have been winning of late, which is so very exciting in this city that never loses hope! Regardless of their wins/losses, however, they are champion Gridiron Givers, both on and off the field, as they work to support a number of important local and national charities (B4).

Fifty years is a true milestone for any band, and with our world-renowned Rock Hall always tuned in to the “best of the best,” The Rolling Stones, celebrating their 50th, will be honored this month with the prestigious Music Masters award. A week-long celebration of the band begins Monday, Oct. 21 (B7).

It’s difficult to mention “finest” in any issue of Currents, without mention of Hermès products, found exclusively in this region at Cuffs in Chagrin Falls. Hermès will be showcasing “The Secrets of the Hermès Carré” at the Cleveland Museum of Art next month. We look forward to welcoming Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Hermès’ artistic director, to Cleveland for this special event about which you can read more in Kathy O’Neil’s story (A4).

If you love to just hop in the car and drive this fabulous fall season, you may have driven past the American Society for Metals’ Geodesic Dome in Russell, off Route 87. If you haven’t ever seen this architectural gem, program it into your GPS or navigational app, and see it first-hand. It’s a Northeast Ohio treasure, and you can learn more about its origins, history and recent renovations in Sali McSherry’s feature (B12).

Solon’s Eddie Tancredi recently competed for the United States team in the Culinary Olympics in Germany, won the regional competition of the American Culinary Federation’s Chef of the Year competition in New York, and won the Chef of the Year competition held at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas! Read more about this talented young chef in Barry Goodrich’s feature (C5).

The new Cleveland Convention Center and adjacent Global Center for Health Innovation are finally a reality, settling into the downtown landscape with more than one million square feet of precious space! We should be proud to have the most state-of-the-art Convention Center in the country, and should also know just as a “fun fact” when we’re touring friends and family around town, that it lies beneath the largest grass rooftop on a public building in the U.S.! (C3).

Speaking of family and friends coming to town, while we realize it’s only late October, the holiday season will be upon us before we know it. So, it’s time to begin thinking about creating a beautiful table for Thanksgiving and beyond (B6), as well as what’s in fashion for the holidays this season, so you’re set to step out in style (B8).

Enjoy! KELLI COTESWORTH McLELLAN
