It’s a get ready for Spring Training, Spring Break issue of Currents!

The Tribe starts Spring Training in sunny Phoenix, Arizona on March 3, and that ought to boost your mood and have you anticipating the promise of warmer, sunnier days ahead right here in Northeast Ohio! Read more about the many fan-friendly stadiums and amenities in the Valley of the Sun on page A7, and visit for more information.

It’s not just Spring Training season for the Indians! If you resolved in the new year to focus on your health, wellness and fitness, this issue of Currents offers inspiration to keep you going or to get you back on track. Now is the time to concentrate on your own individual “spring training” routines, so you’ll be feeling better and more fit when the warmer seasons arrive on The North Coast! Twenty years after the Cleveland Indians’ memorable 1995 season, Sandy Alomar is as fit as ever, having developed a passion for cycling after a number of knee surgeries (A6). While it’s not outdoor cycling season here in NE Ohio just yet, there are some fun, new fitness opportunities being offered in our area (A12) and plenty of activewear options available to have you looking stylish from the gym or dog park to the grocery store and beyond (B4). And if nothing else seems to be working well for you to date, try one of today’s popular activity trackers, to be worn on your wrist, which will help individualize and customize your fitness patterns and goals … tracking everything you do on a daily basis, from caloric intake, steps taken and workout intensity to hours slept and more (A12). If you feel sluggish when you awaken in the darkness these winter months, try tuning in to WCLV for Jacqueline Gerber’s SousAlarm wake-up call and more on her popular morning radio show which she does with style, class and sass for area listeners who truly appreciate her wit (A9). Elegant home gyms are all the rage for busy people who wish to work out, relax and be entertained at home, so consider re-designing an area of your home, if possible, to help in your family’s daily quest for better health, wellness and fitness with ease and no need to venture toward an area gym or fitness facility (C4).

Spring Break is on the horizon for students and families … or anyone planning to take a week or more to escape the last of winter here and travel to anywhere warm and sunny in order to recharge. Now is the time to book any one of the multiple spa services available before you pack and board that plane or cruise ship (B2). If you haven’t already planned for a vacation, skip the online surfing at this point in time, and contact your nearest travel agent who will guide and direct you toward the best places and deals available for the upcoming seasons, at no extra charge, with peace of mind (B3).

Be well, and enjoy! Next month in Currents, we focus on Real Men … Real Fashion, and Home Design! Kelli Cotesworth McLellan
