It’s our annual Holiday Celebrations issue of Currents designed to get you rolling into the final stretch of the season! With just 13 days left for shopping, we’ve included gift-giving guides on pages B5 and D2 with special ideas for those who haven’t yet been checked off your gift list.
Worried about gaining a few pounds as you look at all the holiday invitations on your calendar? Read page D5 for the Cleveland Clinic’s alternatives and tips for healthier eating through this season of indulgence!
Want to make the season extra merry, memorable and bright for your friends and family this year? Read Barbara Christian’s recommendations of special holiday happenings (A10) and art exhibits (C12) scheduled around town, call for tickets and make it happen!
With 40 benefits included in this issue (one that helped to raise $1,000,000 in just one evening!), you can take heart in what has been reported in the news of late — that while times are tough, people indeed are giving generously to nonprofits and charities.
And finally, don’t forget our troops serving away from home this season! It was my first Thanksgiving and will be my first Christmas without my oldest son at home. He is a 20-year-old Marine serving his first tour of duty in Iraq. While I miss him, especially at this time of year, he reports that they are doing “great work,” they are “very busy” and that half-way through his tour, “the time has flown by.”
In this season when we all wish for and proclaim, “Peace On Earth, Goodwill Toward Men,” let us remember the many soldiers and sailors from our country who are away from their loved ones, working around the clock in anything but comfortable, home-like environments to protect all of us and our freedoms.
Blessings, joy, hope and peace to you all this holiday season. – KELLI COTESWORTH McLELLAN
