Editors note february 09

133January traditionally is fairly quiet on the benefit front, and this year was no exception. So our February issue of Currents always allows more space for feature stories, which this year center around issues of the mind, body and spirit, spotlight empowered women in our area, or “take us away” with some cruise and resort ideas. Add to that education and luxury car sections and you should find plenty of interesting reading this month.

Film fanatic Martha Towns couldn’t resist reviewing movies you’ll see spotlighted at the Academy Awards ceremony on February 22 (see page B7). Martha also has written about the century-old Benjamin Rose Institute that continues to ably serve Cleveland’s seniors and their families (see page A10).
Sarah Jaquay spent some time at the Cleveland Clinic’s Health Innovations Summit and writes about the latest and greatest technologies and medical innovations for 2009 (see page A11).

Sarah also has written about celebrating Mardi Gras “North Coast Style” at Fat Fish Blue on Fat Tuesday, February 24. People have been known to line up throughout the day where they receive beads and hot chocolate while waiting for delicious New Orleans inspired cuisine. Chef JR Grady plans to roast and prepare four whole alligators for the festivities this year (see page A2).
Our world travelers, Joe Garry and David Frazier (who are sailing once again as I type) have written about glorious Bora Bora and the fabulous Four Seasons Bora Bora resort (see page A6). Fashion consultant and stylist Donna Morrow-Alusheff spent some time shopping for the latest in cruise and resort wear for those of you fortunate enough to be leaving for warmer climes in the midst of our Northeast Ohio winter (see page A8).

From The Mustard Seed’s success story and Jean Mackenzie’s award-winning goat cheese to Dr. Steven Nissan’s timely Town Hall lecture about food and drug safety, we seem to have covered it all this month!
