Editor”s Note – March 09

Editor”s Note

Although St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, I hope the luck of the Irish remains with all of us (Irish or not) as we head into spring!
It’s the time of year that beckons us to open our windows, clean out our closets, prepare the landscaping beds for planting and take a look around to see what needs to be done. It’s time to transform our home environments from cozy winter havens to more open and inviting spring and summer spaces. Hence, we turn our focus to home design in this month’s issue of Currents.
Our cover this month reflects what can be done by area designers who specialize in customizing closets, extra bedrooms, work spaces and places. Read about transforming your home spaces into custom-designed, more organized places…a fundamental of good home design, on page B6.
For those of you who dream about the benefits of living in the city or near University Circle, don’t miss reading about The Pinnacle Building, the only newer, luxurious condominium structure in the Historic Warehouse District on page A4 or about Donald Gest’s Wade Park townhomes on page B8. More home design features can be found on pages B4, B5, B7, C4 and C6.
Our Empowering Women series continues this month in Section C, with feature stories about enterprising, entrepreneurial women who have found success and are making a difference in our region. From dentists to floral and plant designers and chefs, these women prove that dreams, hard work, determination and perseverance are key to building any successful business endeavor.
Finally, Going Green…always a popular subject today, with so many ways in which people are working to do it! If you’re part of the movement, read about Green City Blue Lake at the Natural History Museum on page A9, NCJW Goes Green on page A11 and the Greenhouse Tavern, the only certified organic restaurant in Ohio on E. 4th St. set to open April 1, on page A11.
Benefit Beat enthusiasts who hit the trail for charity last month will find our party coverage from last month throughout this issue, with the majority of it in Section A. For arts/charity events scheduled for this month, see page C5.
Happy reading and happy spring! KELLI COTESWORTH McLELLAN
