The 18th annual Epilepsy Association Gala was held at the Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Center with 225 supporters in attendance who helped to raise nearly $100,000.
Once again, Amy Georgalis, a member of the association’s board, chaired the benefit and Paul Orlousky, Channel 19 Action News Anchor, served as emcee. The evening began with cocktails and a silent auction which included numerous furs from Sabau Furs and an abundance of unique pieces of jewelry.
Legacy Awards were given to individuals and companies that have shown outstanding support and advocacy efforts on behalf of and to the association. The 2009 recipients were Dr. Fred Rothstein and Baker Hostetler LLP.
In his capacity as executive vice president of University Hospitals and president of University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Dr. Rothstein has been able to affect major changes that positively impact the lives of epilepsy patients. His interest in integrated clinical care and coordinated physician relations across the system, has led to an expansion of epilepsy services in Northeast Ohio through program growth at University Hospitals.
Chris Swift accepted on behalf of Baker & Hostetler. The law firm is one of the most loyal and generous supporters of the Epilepsy Association, contributing more than $70,000 to support programs and services for individuals with seizure disorders in Northeast Ohio. Baker & Hostetler also has provided countless hours of in-kind legal services to the association. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY CAROLINE R. MERK
