Fashion & Philanthropy was a fashion show and fundraiser to benefit Fashion Group and the Cleveland YWCA NIA (Nurturing Independence & Aspirations) Program. The hostesses were fashion designer Vanni Wang and jewelry designer Maria Pujana. Dixie Lee Davis was both the honorary chair and grand honoree of the event which took place at the Ritz-Carlton.
The fabulous fashions were designed by Vanni Wang, of Rocky River, for her label Lucio Vanni Couture. Each ensemble was accessorized with sumptuous jewelry from Marise Jewelry Designs.
After the fashion show, there was a tribute to Dixie Lee Davis, a beloved and greatly admired icon in Cleveland’s world of fashion for 50 years. She was presented with a proclamation from the City of Cleveland. Doug Loftus, and old friend of Dixie’s, surprised her by flying in from NYC. He is chairman of Fashion Group International, which is headquartered in New York.
Margaret Mitchell, the new president and CEO of the Greater Cleveland YWCA, explained that the NIA Program strives to help youth in foster care and those “aging” out of the system. The kids receive assistance in earning their high school diplomas or GEDs, and an opportunity to build career and life skills. STORY BY CAROLINE R. MERK/PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROBERT MULLER
