The sun setting on the polo field at the Cleveland Metroparks in Moreland Hills was the perfect ending to an elegant evening that featured a demonstration polo match and a light supper under a white tent.
To benefit Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center, Spring Swing was attended by more than 200 people and raised about $36,000.
Ladies in fashionable hats and gentlemen in casual Madras jackets sipped cocktails as they witnessed a polo match between Cleveland Polo Club and the Darlington Polo Club, which both donated their time and talents. For those of us who needed a primer — Polo 101 — it was all in the program, and basically it’s like hockey on horseback.
Thanks to event co-chairman Steve O’Neill, a member of the Cleveland team who was instrumental in coordinating the match, and co-chairwoman Lisa McConnell for their hard work. Title sponsor was the Jim Thome Family.
The event also featured “Polo Poker,” numbers board, raffle, silent auction and music by Drene Ivy.
A buffet by Elan Catering featured thin slices of pork tenderloin with curry mustard, redskin potato salad with asparagus and a sweets lover’s dream of gourmet confections.
Students of all ages with diverse backgrounds and ability levels are welcome at Fieldstone Farm where personal growth and individual achievement are fostered. Whether students have physical, cognitive, sensory or emotional disabilities, they benefit from riding, driving or working with the horses at the center. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY SALI McSHERRY
