“First Waltz”

It was time for trading in the work shoes for the blue suede shoes, dancing on tables and singing with the band.
The First Waltz, consistently one of the best parties in town and held at the House of Blues, benefited the Bright Side of the Road Foundation, founded by Barry and Kelley Winovich, along with family and friends to raise funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research. Mr. Winovich was diagnosed with ALS in 2006.
His brother Bob, who served as the director of the night of live performances by some of the best local bands, got an education on music by attending countless concerts with Barry, and he’s got the concert stubs to prove it.
Knockout performances at the First Waltz 2008 were by Jack Fords, Disco Inferno, Jackson Rohm, Sonic Tonsil, Kristine Jackson, The Cleveland Blues All-Stars with Michael Stanley, the Bright Siders and the Inlet Dance Theatre.
About 820 guests attended the party that helped to raise about $250,000.
The Bright Side of the Road was recently inducted into the Cleveland Clinic’s 1921 Society for its generous donations. The organization established the Barry Winovich Endowed Chair for ALS Research, and Cleveland Clinic selected Dr. Erik Pioro, internationally renowned expert in ALS research, as the chair holder.
