Flashes of Hope “Big Shots and Little Stars”

More than 1,400 people arrived at the “Q” to cheer on some very big stars, and raise an amazing amount of money for childhood cancer research. Yes, there were pro basketball and hockey players there, as well as many community leaders. But the real heroes of the evening were the 37 youngsters, age four and older, who have battled cancer with grace and courage. Dressed in party clothes from Pat Catan’s, these amazing survivors strutted the runway with their “Big Shot” partners to the cheers of parents, grandparents and supporters. Allison and Kip Clarke founded “Flashes of Hope” as their own son battled cancer. Utilizing professional photographers, who generously donate their time, the organization ensures that families have beautiful portrait portfolios, while reaping major funds for cancer research. This evening alone, with its James Bond theme and luxury raffle and auction items, raised nearly $1,000,000, to be shared with area hospitals and the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Kudos to Dan Gilbert for providing the venue, Richard Horvitz for matching dollars in the fund-a-need auction, Cavs and Monsters players who gave the kids a real thrill by their presence, and all of the Big Shots who donated not only their time, but substantial dollars for the honor of walking the runway and ensuring a stellar event.
