Gordon Square Arts District “Hip 2B Square”

On an evening of early summer breezes, the poolside patio party at the Edison on Gordon Square spilled into Father Caruso Drive for the seventh annual Hip 2B Square. Sipping libations from Terrestrial Brewing Co. and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and sampling an array of savory snacks from Marigold Catering, 500 patrons enjoyed the music of Classical Revolution and Gypsy Jazz , then strolled along the grassy lawn, with Superelectric pinball machines and mural painting. Under the street tent, a table full of sugary iced donuts from Brewnuts aimed to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Fiona the Firebird was there, deftly handled by Katelyn Cornelius, puppeteer and education director for Tailspinner Children’s Theater. And the CityBreaks dancers not only enthralled the crowd with crazy gymnastic gyrations, they also got people onto the dance pad to show off some moves of their own. Also open for exploration was The Edison’s fourth-floor residential suite, designed by environmental artist Suzie Frazier and offering balcony views to the party and out to the sailboats on Lake Erie.

Special recognition went to Cleveland Hustles investors Kathy Futey, Alan Glazen, Kumar Arora and Jonathan Sawyer for infusing more than a $1 million in new business in the Gordon Square Art District. Hip 2B Square ticket sales and silent auction bids raised $227,000, which will be used for outdoor performances, microgalleries of local artists and installation of painted murals, according to Carrie Carpenter, president and executive director of the Gordon Square Arts District.
