Our Lady of the Wayside
Grapes on Tour & Hors d’Oeuvre Contest

Our Lady of the Wayside (OLW) combined its two popular fundraisers into one fabulous evening of fine wine and food.
The party at Progressive Field began with some 250 patrons’ blind taste-testing of red and white wines from five wineries before voting for the best of each. Winners were Menage a Trois (red) and Terra d’Oro Moscato (white). Enticing aromas lured VIPs to join the additional 400 plus guests already lining up at food stations for samples prepared by the 12 restaurants competing in the Finest Hors d’Oeuvre Contest. Award winners were Chef Marlin Mayorga of Corleone’s Ristorante (first); Chef Mike Lipnos of Carrie Cerino’s (second); and Chef Genna Larson of The Treehouse Tea Room (third).
Musician Alex Bevan played as people bid on silent auction items before celebrity hosts John Lanigan of WMJI, Nancy Alden of WDOK and Joe Crea of The Plain Dealer began the live auction. Sharon and Mike Hargrove stepped up to the plate to auction the Cleveland Indians Fantasy Camp for a winning bid of more than $3,500.
According to Terry Davis, president and ceo of OLW, two new programs have been initiated — one helps children with autism and the second helps mothers who are disabled with children.
OLW has served the needs of people with mental retardation and development disabilities for more than 40 years. Proceeds of more than $70,000 from the party will help the 350 adults and children OLW serves in 29 communities in Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY KATHRYN RIDDLE
