The fifth annual Road to the Red Carpet glittered like gold, raising about $200,000 for the Greater Cleveland Film Commission.
Lisa Mullin was chairman of the Oscar night gala at Pickwick & Frolic where nearly 700 guests sipped champagne and posed for souvenir photos before dining on sumptuous hors d’oeuvres offered at several food stations. In addition to a silent auction weighted with movie memorabilia, there was a live auction, conducted by Bob Hale of Benefit Auction Services, preceded by remarks by GCFC President Ivan Schwarz.
“In three years, we’ve seen $150 million impact our economic development, and last June tax incentives were doubled,” said Mr. Schwarz. “In 2011, there were six major movies made in Cleveland; Paramount has been here three times and Marvel is coming back. The Film Commission wants Cleveland to be the global center of excellence in this medium.”
Then everyone settled down to watch the live broadcast of the 85th Academy Awards. Long before it was over, it should be no surprise that Mr. Schwarz had predicted that “Argo” would win the Oscar! STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY KATHRYN RIDDLE
