“Horse Around” to benefit Hiram House Camp was a ticket to fun for kids of all ages. Under a sun-and-cloud sky, campers, their parents, grandparents, former camp counselors, former campers and friends had the opportunity to enjoy their favorite camping experiences, like horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, archery and hiking. The big hit was the climbing wall. To some, it looked like Mt. Everest. But that little observation didn’t deter the young ones, including all five members of the Scully family. Son, Thomas, 7, made it to the top of the 35-foot wall.
Stretched over 172 acres, the camp, comprised of forest, meadows, ponds, waterfalls, creek, wildlife, pool, equestrian center and pioneer-style village with log cabins is nestled in pristine Moreland Hills.
More than 175 people attended the benefit and alumni reunion that also featured a barbecue supper, bonfire and camp songs, arts and crafts, music and a silent auction. Money raised will benefit the horseback riding program and campership fund which provides financial aid for hundreds of kids in need each year with a life-enriching summer camp experience.
