Holiday fashion forecast calls for dressing up this season

By SUE REID

There is no time like the holidays to dress one’s best! Whether it is for a holiday open house or a formal benefit, options run the gamut and are sparkly and colorful, mirroring the beauty o the season.

At Kilgore Trout, Eton Chagrin Boulevard, holiday means lots of color, sparkle — and feathers! Denim is embellished with sequins and chains down the leg like a tux pant, and sweaters in luxurious cashmere and in prints by Elizabeth and James are adorned with feathers at the bottom. Paired with jeans, these sweaters make the perfect choice for any holiday party and are extremely festive. Dresses are colorful with sheer accents and leopard prints abound in choices by Rag & Bone. Cover these ensembles with the coolest, lightest and warmest outerwear by Herno.

At Lisa Moran, Eton Chagrin Boulevard, dressier short dresses and gowns are the top choices for holiday ensembles. There are also fabulous dressy separates, like a white sequin sweatshirt paired with jeans or black pants and a great high heel. Short dresses are all about color for the holidays, and are perfect in shades of red, royal blue and green. And because the benefit scene in Northeast Ohio is busy this time of year, gowns are always popular choices at Lisa Moran — perfect for holiday weddings, too.

At Audrey’s Sweet Threads, Eton Chagrin Boulevard, tops of hand-dyed print silks with jewel embellishment are dressy enough for any holiday party or holiday wedding. “They are definitely a show stopper,” Audrey said of these tops, which are great paired with jeans. Beautiful hand-died and shimmery silk caftan tops by Camilla have a jewel accent and are long and flowy, colorful yet tasteful. Couple these with a beautiful slim dress pant and your holiday look is complete. This is a great look for any holiday party or open house. Cocktail attire with and without sleeves is also available at Audrey’s this season, in shades of navy, black and white, and prints. Add an accent jewelry piece or a silk scarf, and any look is “jazzed up,” Audrey said.

At Knuth’s in Pepper Pike and Westlake, holidays are hip, fun and full of style with the newest jumpsuits, offered in many styles and fabrications for holiday dressing. The most universally flattering, according to Sherri Bryan, has a set-in waist and full, swingy pant leg. Add heels and jewelry, and you’re set! Also at Knuth’s for the holidays are separates made of lace and velvet or sheer fabrics paired with pants, whether they are leggings, skinny or wide legged. The Kimono jacket is the hippest separate of the season, and is perfect in burnout velvet with fringe. Classic options include dresses in fit and flare or slim pencil shapes. Beautiful wraps accent any sleeveless holiday look, and sparkle is found in statement necklaces, earrings and bracelets to make for the perfect, festive ensemble.

Nothing says holiday and style like a mink, retro, Audrey Hepburn-type jacket with cocktail-length sleeve presented by Albert Furs at Eton Chagrin Boulevard. With a boat neck and stand-up collar, these coats are modern and beautiful and the perfect piece for any holiday look. Paired with anything from blue jeans to dress pants, the fine mink coat is perfect to wear to any kind of party. It is stunning in grey, but is also available in black and brown.

At Bonnie’s Goubaud at Eton Chagrin Boulevard, fashions in black with touches of glitz are presented for the holidays, as well as the traditional Christmas sweater for an office party or casual open house, many adorned with snowflakes or Santa Claus. There are also lots of dresses as well as leggings and fun tunic tops. Add a fur accessory, like a collar, and change your outfit completely
