Centennial Gala

The legacy of 100 years of caring and commitment was palpable throughout the Junior League of Cleveland”s (JLC) Centennial Gala held at the historic State Theatre at PlayhouseSquare.
The Gala started with a reception in the lobby. Dinner, catered by Sammy”s, held on the stage of the State was next, with dessert and dancing following back in the lobby. Live, silent and Lucky Draw auctions added spice to the evening, as did the music from the Joshua Trio.
Mingling among the more than 350 guests were Honorary Chairs, past JLC Presidents Diann Scaravilli and Lainie Hadden, and current President Hermione Malone, along with Centennial Celebration co-chairs Linda Campbell and Robyn Forney, and Gala Chair Michelle Felder. They are heirs to an organization supported by many of Cleveland”s leading families such as Mather, Blossom, Hoyt, Garfield, Vail and Case.
The Junior League of Cleveland then, as now, is comprised of diverse, action-oriented women dedicated to community change. JLC women sewed bandages during WWI and distributed food during the Depression; they worked as Civil Defense Volunteers during WWII and gave funds and countless hours to a wide variety of nonprofits targeting women, families and children. Their dedication, in part, led to the preservation of the very building in which they celebrated.
With membership standing at 500 strong, the Junior League of Cleveland is well poised to continue all its good work well into the next 100 years. STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY RITA KUEBER
