Cleveland Reception

In honor of Marine Week Cleveland 2012, Helen Moss and Richard Fleischman hosted a special reception at their historic home in Bratenahl.
Among the 300 invited guests were 65 United States Marines who had participated in the weeklong activities open to the public. Their experience in Cleveland marked the fourth Marine Week, held previously in Chicago, Boston and St. Louis, and was the best ever, according to Lt. Gen. Steve Hummer, commander of Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North. Also in attendance were Lt. Gen. Willie Williams, Director, Marine Corps Staff, and Lt. Col. Michael P. Hubbard, inspector instructor of the Marine Reserve 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment in Brook Park. Several elected officials also attended the event.
“The purpose of this evening is to honor the United States Marines and their dedication,” said Richard before introducing Helen. Helen presented Lt. Gen. Hummer and his wife Sheri with a pair of lily candlesticks, hand-wrought by her eldest son Bill, a blacksmith and himself a Marine. Pairs of these candlesticks have been presented to Presidents Bush and Obama and their wives in ceremonies at The White House.
It was a special evening, with everyone enjoying food catered by Jeffrey Mills, music by the Quantico Marine Band and concluding with spectacular fireworks launched from a barge provided by Ronald Rasmus. Semper Fidelis! STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHS BY KATHRYN RIDDLE
