Palate/Palette, A Sensual Blend of Food Plus Art, was a unique evening of art, food and wine to benefit the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (MOCA). The event was held on site with nearly 300 supporters of contemporary art in attendance.
The silent auction was comprised mainly of art and wine packages. The live auction featured seven substantial works of art by well-known artists. A piece by Tomas Vu went for four times the asking price! The spirited bidding was handled by auctioneer Deborah Gray, president of Gray’s Auctioneers, LLC.
The event featured five top local chefs who created mini artistic food environments that were meant to engage the five senses in a way that would influence the palate. Participating chefs were Sergio Abramof, Sergio’s and Sarava; Brandt Evans, Blue Canyon; Doug Katz, fire food & drink; Jonathon Sawyer, The Greenhouse Tavern, and Karen Small, Flying Fig.
The chefs, who donated their time, obviously had fun being out front, interacting with guests and having a chance to showcase their culinary artistry. They created an event that was very entertaining and unpredictable. “It’s important for us to put on a benefit that is different from the norm, edgy and artistic. That is what people expect from Moca,” said Amy Shorey, MOCA’s campaign gifts officer. A samba dance party capped off the evening with percussionist Marcus Santos leading his band, Samba Joia. Sergio Abramof is a member of the group. Professional dancer, Tati Sousa, demonstrated the samba and got people on their feet!
Palate/Palette raised $176,000, greatly exceeding the goal of $110,000.  Bravo! STORY BY CAROLINE R. MERK/PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROBERT MULLER
