Consider Yourself One of Us

Just imagine yourself walking into a magnificent Gothic cathedral to find yourself in the midst of a Dickens-themed street party. It was a reality when Near West Theatre’s Consider Yourself One of Us filled Trinity Cathedral with more than 500 revelers who were treated to song, dance, music and a performance by the cast of “Oliver.”
This year’s honoree was Joanne Lewis who, along with her late husband, Robert, were early supporters of Stephanie Morrison-Hrbek and her husband George who founded the theater in 1978. Mrs. Lewis served on the board for 10 years and has been an ardent supporter all these years.
EuroUSA provided the food, a bountiful pasta buffet with sausages and chicken, which was prepared by Spice of Life Catering with desserts by Gypsy Beans and Baking Co.
The Near West Theatre needs $2.8 million to begin construction of its new theater in the Gordon Square Arts District. So inspirational was the whole evening that Eric Kennedy donated $500,000 to be paid upon groundbreaking!
Near West is more than just a theater. It is transformational. STORY BY MARTHA TOWNS/PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROB WETZER
