Our Lady of the Wayside “Grapes & Ale”

Presented by Giant Eagle, the signature summer event of fine wines, craft beers and beyond fabulous barbeque benefited Our Lady of the Wayside, the nonprofit serving children and adults with developmental disabilities.

A throng of more than 1,200 people enjoyed a perfect evening at Progressive Field, its Concourse C lined with a huge silent auction displayed opposite stations serving samplings of more than 200 wines from across the country and the globe. In the Market Pavilion, not to be outdone was the craft brew garden featuring samples of refreshing cold beer and a Beer Slide for the Wayside, its prize of beer selections drawn from folks who got a bull’s-eye. Eight area restaurants served up hot and spicy dishes, succulent barbeque, mini hot dogs and sliders and of course desserts at stations from one end of the concourse to the other. Colin Dussault’s Acoustic Side Project provided musical entertainment throughout the night.

By year’s end, according to President and CEO Terry Davis, Our Lady of the Wayside will have 60 homes for its residents and about 60 clients are participating in the newest Pathways Program in Independence. “We’re looking to raise $100,000 at this event,” he said, and it did!
