"Holy Hanna!"

Holy Hanna! And they said it couldn”t be done, those naysayers who said no one could rebuild and remodel the Hanna Theatre in nine months.
Tell that to the 578 excited people, some of who came an hour before the official start time of the opening night gala on a perfect September Saturday night. "We were ready for them," said Heather Sherwin, Great Lakes Theater Festival”s development director. The Hanna is GLTF”s new permanent home and the last of the PlayhouseSquare theaters to be totally renovated.
The theater was the star of the night, elegantly renovated and state-of-the-art. Everyone was wowed at the glamour and thrilled to see Cleveland”s grand old lady of the theater looking like the belle of the ball. Performance artist Michael Ostaski dazzled with two paintings of William Shakespeare, as we always see him and in the contemporary form of David Hansen, spiffy in red Converse sneakers. He was accompanied by Dr. Angelin Chang on the piano and by the Contemporary Youth Orchestra.
Robyn Barrie and her committee faced the challenge of planning the inaugural party which included getting the City to shut 14th St. down for six days. The oversold crowd meant that several tables were set up in the Hanna Restaurant where guests could still hear NightBreeze belting out the tunes for a dancing crowd. Marigold Catering served dinner at buffet stations.
The ghosts of past performers who inhabit the Hanna Theatre must be thrilled that the lights are on and the theater lives again. STORY BY MARTHA TOWNS. PHOTOGRAPHS BY ROBERT MULLER
