Paysage launches chic new Home Brand line in Cleveland Heights

By SUE REID

Not only has Paysage been a leader in home design for nearly three decades, it has evolved in so many wonderful and unique ways.

Its latest transformation will directly benefit those clients who desire a wonderful diversity in their interior as the store will launch its new Paysage Home Brand at its Cleveland Heights location this month, with a national launch planned for the spring.

“We will launch in Cleveland because this is our hometown, and it’s a wonderful things for us to do,” store owners, Richard and Jane Marquard, said. “We are very excited to have this tremendous support of people we have worked with in the past decades.”

In explaining what brought them to create the Paysage Home Brand with their own goods as well as showing a vision of where style in home furnishings is headed, the couple took us back to how they began.

They started with French country antiques and fabrics, but have evolved into a lifestyle store, presenting every facet of what is needed in a home, from upholstery to jewelry to table top, and the list goes on.

Another step to the brand was a concentration on a naturally modern and classic look.

“When Richard came up with that, it really solidified a real direction that felt comfortable to us,” Jane Marquard explained.

For example, they offer pieces in rustic woods with gorgeous shapes and blend those with something that is modern and edgy. That is then blended with another unique piece, such as a beautiful mirror. “You get this amazing, fabulous collected look that is interesting and fun to live with,” Ms. Marquard said. That look can also be modified constantly.

Another facet of what brought them to the home brand had to do with the recession in 2008. “That hit a reset button for everyone,” Mr. Marquard said. “Everyone started looking at their expenses.”

As a result and to benefit their clients, the Marquards began negotiating with their vendors, buying deeper into the look they loved to get a better price to make their look and their pieces more accessible. They are proud to pass that savings on to their clientele. “The beautiful part of this is that we will be accessible to more people because of the price-point and look,” Ms. Marquard said.

“We reinvented ourselves on so many different levels,” she continued said. “This is an interesting time for us. It has coalesced in a non-planned way.”

In preparing for the re-branding, the owners have excitedly had the interior of the Cleveland Heights store completely re-done, and clients will notice the difference.

In creating the home brand, the Marquards worked with four of Paysage’s major manufacturers to develop their own product package. “It is all the prestige and quality, without the price,” Richard noted. “It’s price points we’ve never had before.

“We are working directly with the mills on the most fabulous linens or linen blends,” he added excitedly.

These four manufacturers have different strengths. Those will be evident in the beautiful case goods, dining room tables and furnishings in the launch.

“We will launch a full cantor of upholstery and pieces and parts of different new and exciting tables, chairs, chests of drawers, coffee tables, end tables and sectional sofas.” Other items that will be under their own brand include a whole new rug program “at unbelievable prices,” wall coverings, bedding and window treatments.

“It’s all the chic without the check,” the couple so cleverly explained.

The Marquqards are anxious to see how Cleveland responds.

“We feel that this naturally modern classic look really allows people to clean up their acts, get clean and get neat,” Ms. Marquard said. “It also allows people to transition from where they are now.

“You can’t come up with some revolutionary new style, you have to transition,” Ms. Marquard advised. “Style is more evolutionary than revolutionary.”

Paysage, which began in Rocky River, moved to its east side store in 1991 on Chagrin Boulevard, before coming to Cleveland Heights. They have another location in North Carolina.

“We set the tone and standards for style in Cleveland,” Mr. Marquard said.

“A lot of people utilize our ideas and incorporate them into the interior design in their own home.”

With the new Paysage Home Brand, “we are proud we can lead Cleveland forward toa style and price point that makes sense.”
