The 12th annual Philanthropia, the unique charitable event created by Harlan Diamond after 9/11, raised in excess of $136,000 benefiting 139 nonprofits throughout the Cleveland community.
More than 850 people, each of whom designated a favorite charity beneficiary, attended the luncheon and program at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven. WEWS-TV News Anchor Leon Bibb served again this year as emcee for the program that featured The Singing Angels that sang, under the direction of Charles Ebersole, an Ethiopian carol, a Hanukkah prayer for children, and led a Christmas sing-along with the audience. Prior to the invocation offered by Ursuline College President Sister Diana Stano, Mr. Diamond acknowledged event platinum sponsor Lou Frangos.
After luncheon, names of the raffle winners were drawn, followed by a special announcement made by Mr. Diamond and Father Bob Stec, pastor at St. Ambrose Parish in Brunswick.
Father Stec said that students from seven area high schools have taken the initiative in their respective schools “to duplicate the mission and purpose of Philanthropia.” What a great honor and legacy for Mr. Diamond who saw the need to help our city’s nonprofits to have his idea carried forward by caring young people.
